- Give it a drink… Before bringing your tree into its new home make sure you take 2-3 cm off the base and then put it outside in water to hydrate for at least one day.
- Sit it comfortably… Choose a tree stand that holds plenty of water and that you can easily fit the base of the tree in without restriction.
- Think about your location… try to position your tree out of the way of direct heat such as a radiator or a fire. The best space is in front of a window where it may get some fresh air.
- Do not remove the netting around the tree until you have it in house and secured in the stand.
- Turn the tree so that you can view the best side.
- Pour water into the tree stand and maintain this level throughout the Christmas season. The tree should never be without water as the tree will seal up and not take in any more water unless you make a new cut at the bottom.
- Put a tree skirt or a sheet around the base of the tree to protect carpet from sap.
- After Christmas, leave the tree at a collection point for recycling, or stand it up in the back yard as a winter shelter for birds.
